Jose Mourinho hailed Anthony Martial, Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard after Manchester United’s 4-1 thumping of Burton Albion.

The Red Devils went into the EFL third round tie full of confidence after two victories on the bounce over Basel in the Champions League and Everton in the English top flight.

Martial, who scored United’s fourth of the evening – after goals from Marcus Rashford and Lingard – was named man of the match after the win and Mourinho was full of praise for his players.

Asked about Rashford’s performance, Mourinho responded: ‘Yeah, but Martial was good, Mata was good and Lingard was good.

‘Everyone in attacking areas gave good dynamic and happiness to the team.

‘We look happy playing football at the moment and that’s what I want.’

Mourinho was glad his players were ‘professional’ and took the competition seriously at Old Trafford.

He added: ‘[I learned] nothing new, just what I know. They are ready to play.

‘They are using minutes on the pitch to try to improve. There was some great performances and, collectively, the team enjoyed the game.

‘Sometimes players are not keen to enjoy these games and be professional so I’m happy with that.’
